Living a life less toxic…

Wow, what a month!

Sorry it’s been a while since I last posted but there’s been so much going on I simply haven’t had the time, but I’m here now!

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to be an exhibitor (with my Vega food intolerance tester) at the first Health and Fitness festival in Edinburgh.  This was held in Victoria Park in Leith and was a super day.  There was pretty much someone from most areas of health and fitness there, as well as police, fire brigade and the local radio station (who unfortunately asked me to talk about what I was doing live on air – oh so embarrassing! ha).

There will be another one of these events in June 2014, so keep your eyes open for that!

Then there was Let’s Make This World A Better Places’s first visit to the Eco Earthship over in Fife.

This was the group’s most popular event to date, with 13 people attending for a tour of the great little place.  The Earthship is set in a beautiful area, within the grounds of the Ecological Centre and I would highly recommend you book a tour around it sometime.  It’s amazing to see how they built the first UK Earthship (10 years ago) from tyres and other waste products and it’s totally inspired me to build my own………….one day.

They are hoping to build another one close by next year, along with a straw-bale building, so if you want to be part of this project then sign-up with them and they’ll keep you informed.  It’s going to be a great project to be part of and a super learning curve.

Then last weekend the group took part in it’s first beach clean-up.

It took quite a lot of organising, but it was so worth it. 13 adults plus 3 children turned up to clean-up Portobello West beach (the group’s now adopted beach).  There was a huge amount of items collected within the 2 hours everyone was there, which ranged from a double duvet cover, to a Christmas bauble and then all the usual culprits in-between.

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who gave up their Saturday morning to help us achieve this and I was very surprised and pleased when people started asking when the next clean-up will be.  I’m hoping to arrange this for either late October or early November – so watch this space!

All the data collected on the day has already gone off to the Marine Conservation Society and they wanted me to thank you all for this valuable information for their ongoing research and also for helping eliminate some of the debris in the area.

Then to finish the month off I am very pleased to have had an article about palm oil published on the Ragged University website.  This is a great way to raise awareness of the issues around palm oil production and also great for the group as it shows everyone what the group is about and what we feel passionately about.

Here’s the link to the article, I hope you enjoy it and share it with others: http://www.ragged-online.com/2013/08/palm-oilthe-good-the-bad-and-the-downright-ugly-by-faith-canter/

So what with all the above and setting up the below, you can now see why I’ve been a busy bee and have unfortunately neglected you all this month –  I hope you forgive me?

My new nutrition based website ‘Food Therapies’ (addressing food sensitivities, alkalising, yeast overgrowths, enzymes depletion and weight loss):

Edinburgh Therapists Network (a facebook group for any therapists in the Edinburgh area and anyone interested in becoming a therapist or using a therapist):

Free-from (a facebook group for anyone wanting to share recipes and knowledge about living with food sensitivities):

So, I’m off to Norway in a couple of days so it’ll be a bit quiet on here again for a little while, but never fear, I’m never far away and I’ll have lots to tell you when I’m back! =0)
